GPhC starts recruitment for three new council members

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) has begun recruiting for three new council members, including one registered pharmacy professional and two ‘lay’ or non-health professional members.

The recruitment campaign is seeking candidates from all sections of the community across Great Britain who can bring a wide range of knowledge, skills and experience. For the lay council members the GPhC is particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience of retail or business outside of pharmacy. For the registrant council member the GPhC particularly welcomes applications from registrants with current community pharmacy experience.

Commenting on the recruitment of the new council members, Nigel Clarke, Chair of the GPhC said:

“The successful candidates will join the council at an important time for pharmacy regulation in Great Britain. The way pharmacy services are delivered throughout Great Britain is changing and evolving quickly, and it is likely that pharmacy professionals and pharmacies will continue to take on greater responsibilities in providing care for patients and the public.

“As a council we have an important role in setting the strategic direction for the organisation. We are continually challenging ourselves to consider how we can improve the way we regulate, so that we can achieve better results for the patients and public we represent. This is a really exciting opportunity for anybody who is keen to bring their knowledge, skills and experience to help us achieve this.

“I want to take the opportunity to thank our three outgoing council members for their hard work and for playing an important role in further establishing the GPhC as an effective pharmacy regulator that is making a positive contribution to patient safety.”
