GPhC recruits standard setters for the registration assessment

The GPhC has started the recruitment process for standard setters as part of its preparation for introducing a new, more patient focussed registration assessment in 2016. The role of these standard setters is to evaluate questions before they are used in an assessment to check that they are of the right standard and are relevant to practice.

Standards setters must be practising pharmacists with experience of working with early years pharmacists and they can be pre-registration tutors.

Although standards setters will evaluate individual questions, the board of assessors will remain responsible for setting assessment papers.

Commenting on their recruitment, Duncan Rudkin, Chief Executive of the GPhC said:

“The changes we are introducing in June 2016 will ensure that the registration assessment will be much more focused on patient-facing practice. We therefore want to ensure that all questions have been evaluated by front-line pharmacists before we use them.

“I would like to encourage any pharmacists who feel they want to be part of this important process to get in touch, particularly those who are familiar with the knowledge and skills expected of recently registered pharmacists.”
